PERFORMANCE LAB

The Performance Lab is a two-week creation incubator for professional and pre-professional dancers who want to work inside the choreographic process with leading artists.

MovementFest LA offers two Performance Labs this year:

Performance Lab 001 led by Mike Tyus & Diego Vega Solorza, and Performance Lab 002 led by Dolly Sfeir.

Participants train and rehearse with the resident choreographers while contributing to the development of new work created during the festival. In addition to Lab rehearsals, participants receive access to the MovementFest workshop program, featuring artists such as Laja Field and People Watching, and discounted tickets to the Weekend One performances.


Each Lab culminates in the Weekend Two Showcase, where the newly created works premiere as part of the MovementFest LA performance program.

Choreographers Mike Tyus and Diego Vega Solorza lead a two-week creation process blending contemporary dance, acrobatics, and physical theater with a focus on partnering, weight sharing, and dynamic movement research. Participants work closely with the artists through improvisation, physical tasks, and rehearsal to develop new material that will premiere during the MovementFest LA Weekend Two Showcase.

Join Dolly for a two-week creation process that challenges habitual patterns of moving and being. This work is rooted in a movement language that is grounded, specific, richly detailed, and carries a distinctly Middle Eastern aesthetic. Expect to be pulled into visceral states and interrupted sharply out of them, a process dedicated to uncovering the jewels that live inside the artists in the room. Together we’ll weave it all into a highly theatrical, cinematic world. The work will then premiere during the MovementFest LA Weekend Two Showcase.

Cancellations or withdrawals made by June 15, 2026 will receive a 50% refund minus the $100 non-refundable deposit. No refunds will be issued for any cancellations made after this date.
