ABOUT

MovementFest is a new dance ecosystem for Los Angeles — connecting the spaces where dance is trained, created, performed, and shared with the public. Artists can participate in the festival through two primary study tracks: Studio or Lab. In addition to these study tracks, MovementFest LA presents public performances and cultural events that bring the wider community into the festival.

Studio

Artists train through 27 workshops led by prominent choreographers and teachers from Los Angeles and beyond. Classes include contemporary technique, floor work, Countertechnique, and hybrid movement practices.

Lab

The Performance Lab serves as the creative engine of MovementFest LA, providing time and structure for artists to develop new work in collaboration with one another and with invited choreographers.

Stage

MovementFest LA presents two weekends of performances featuring new works by both established and emerging choreographers, giving audiences the opportunity to experience the breadth of movement being created in and around Los Angeles.

Community

The festival expands beyond the theater through public cultural events, including film screenings, live music performances, and late-night DJ gatherings that bring artists and audiences together around movement and culture.

Together, these elements form the MovementFest LA cycle:

Studio → Lab → Stage → Community

MovementFest LA exists to strengthen the dance community of Los Angeles while creating space for new voices, new work, and new creative relationships.
